Lately, the air has been feeling apocalyptic. With COVD-19 and the recent earthquake that hit Utah, I feel that now more than ever is a time for the community to come together (not physically, of course). Thus, why technology is the golden key to productiveness and relaxation during this time of trial.
Recently, “Animal Crossing: New Horizon”, a relaxing role-playing game, came out on the Nintendo Switch. In the game, there is not a clear objective but instead, it is more about exploring one’s island and taking in the views. This was an anticipated game that got delayed due to the concern of the mental well-being of the companies employees, rightfully so. However, the release of Animal Crossing could not have come at a better time. All around the world, many are doing their due diligence of social distancing, which means to distance yourself from one another in order to flatten the curve, or not spread a deadly virus.

Because of this, I have not seen my friends or family for some time. However, because of Animal Crossing, I am able to reconnect with my friends through FaceTime and this game. Through online-play, my friends and I are able to visit each other’s islands while talking face-to-face through FaceTime. One night, we played for hours exploring each other’s villages and laughing with each other. For a moment, we all forgot about what is going on in the outside world. It was a needed, brief, moment. THIS is why technology is needed and helpful during self-quarantine. If Animal Crossing is not your thing, there is always other games that are available to download via laptop or console of your choice. Or, if you want to watch a movie or television show with your loved ones, you can through Netflix Party chat! Through this extension, you and your loved ones can chat in a chatting room, while watching a new Netflix film!

During this time, technology will help enable you to keep in touch with your loved ones. Make sure to utilize technology to your best advantage during this time of trial. FaceTime your mother, father, siblings, keep in touch with one another because we are all feeling this weight right now. We all need a break from the reality of the COVD-19. We can achieve this by simply reconnecting with one another, even if it is not physical.
Technology has helped me during this quarantine because I do not feel that I am shut off from the world. I feel that I am still connected to my friends and family thanks to technology. Thankfully, classes are still going because of technology and the capabilities of an online class.
As a final note, remember, we are all in this together and if we practice social distancing, this too shall pass. There are so many things to be thankful for, try writing down five things you are thankful for every day to realize this. Has technology helped you during this time? Or are you reading a good book or spending extra time with your fluffy companion? Let me know in the comments!
Sending good vibes and love to everyone!
